Black Ops 4 - Blackout Battle Royale Mode First Details

'COD: Black Ops 4' Battle Royale Confirmed, PUBG Says, 'Welcome To The Club'

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will also feature a single-player component of sorts, in which you'll play through the backstories of the multiplayer mode's Specialists. That's because it has done away with tricks like the rocket jump and wall running in favor of more boots-to-the-ground style gameplay - and fans seem right at home with that. That's not too surprising - Call of Duty has always lived and died by it's online experience, but this game is going all in, focusing on the franchise's famous Zombie mode and taking a stab at competitive gaming's latest trend: Battle Royale. Activision began the event with a sizzle reel recapping each of the individual installments in Treyarch's Black Ops series, which has shockingly been nearly a 10-year journey.

There will be land, sea, and air vehicles though, which is usually a no-no for Call Of Duty multiplayer. Instead, the developers say that players will have to heal their characters manually. Even the cast from the Zombies mode will be along for the ride with their own weapons and gear.

The biggest question is will you care if there is no Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 story mode?

The new take on the infamous Zombies game mode in Black Ops 4 is a whole new storyline within the Zombies universe that kicked off with Call of Duty: World at War in 2008.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 12. Treyarch is also promising to make Zombies more versatile than ever, with new modes and "Custom Mutations" that will let you tweak how you play. That's because Black Ops 4 will not have a traditional single-player campaign.

In the campaign's place could be the Call of Duty series' take on the popular battle royale mode we've seen in games like PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and Fortnite.

The new Blackout battle royale mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 makes sense on paper, but does its inclusion coming at the expense of the campaign help or hurt CoD in the long run? "Black Ops 4" gets rid of all of that for a more grounded experience that longtime fans will be more accustomed to.

Amid all these major changes, there was one more hidden in what the company didn't announce: a single-player campaign. According to Treyarch's co-studio head, Dan Bunting, "These missions will be fun and fast-paced trials that give a hands-on introduction to these new and returning Specialists".

Described as more than 1,500-times bigger than Nuke Town, the map will bring together tons of weapons and characters from past Black Ops games for what will probably be a very chaotic experience.
