Apple is planning a new campus. Could it be in the Triangle?

New Apple Campus Could be in North Carolina or Northern Virginia

Apple CEO Tim Cook reportedly met with the governor of North Carolina last week.

"We believe that these modifications will be attractive to large, private sector employers who will invest substantial dollars in North Carolina", Senate President Pro Tem Phil Berger said.

The Washington Post reported just yesterday that Apple was talking with Virginia officials for a new campus in Northern Virginia.

He said North Carolina has been working for the past eight years to create incentives, a talent pool and a business climate that attracts companies like Apple.

Cook was in the region to give a commencement speech at Duke University on May 13.

Earlier this year, Apple said that it will add over 20,000 new in the next five years by hiring at its existing campuses and building a new one.

This campus will be the fourth one for Apple. That's in contrast to Amazon's search for a second headquarters, which issued an open request for proposals.

By conducting its search in relative secrecy Apple has taken a different tact in seeking its new space, something Apple chief executive Tim Cook highlighted in a recent interview when he said "we're not doing a beauty contest kind of thing". The current proposal calls for a bare minimum of 3,000 new jobs at the new Apple facility, with an expansion to between 5,000 to 10,000 jobs once the project is fully complete.

We are Liverpool , on the way to becoming a really good team, and performing at such a high level is very cool. Liverpool take on Real Madrid in Kiev , Ukraine, on May 26. "But, after all, we've earned our place here".

Apple wasn't immediately available to comment on its plans, nor was Cooper's office.

According to reports, as part of Apple's proposed agreement with lawmakers, the company would also spend money outside of the Research Triangle.

There are also some connections to the company that could help Northern Virginia's chances.

"We're narrowing the site selection for a new USA campus, and we look forward to sharing more information on that later this year", Cook said on April 29.

Republican legislators planned to meet Wednesday afternoon to hear details of a state incentives package that would allow Apple to hold onto a portion of the taxes generated by the project.

Apple's new "spaceship" headquarters in Cupertino, named Apple Park, has been called an architectural landmark.
